We are self-educated social anthropologists
The fire bell rings and we congregate together outside – milling about and looking for familiar faces. We are sharing a common experience. We turn to strangers and speak in a familiar way: Is it a real fire, I'll bet I could have grabbed my coat and computer. We are one in experience. The rules have temporarily changed and we wait in this social bubble for an all clear sign at which time we will go back to our offices and cubicles and our individual and separate lives.
If we can come together and speak to strangers over a fire drill - why not over an art project? Why not every day?
Mugs With Frames brings spirit and camaraderie to people who live side-by-side – we call them next-door-strangers. Mugs with Frames - Portrait of a City. Constructing and deconstructing who we are. An idea becomes an event, a game, two small movies and soon, a book.
We were self-taught social anthropologists - observing our society. There are politicians, homeless people, people passing on the street, people in restaurants, on buses and in fire trucks, people at a birthday party, on holiday and in an ambulance. This is our city. These are neighbors mostly smiling back at you.
Please take a moment to view the movie of the project http://www.duo.ca/mugs and read about the game (at the same site).
And then, to be uplifted – see the movie that captures the energy of the event. http://www.youtube.com/user/galleryNora
Smiles beget smiles. Sending out warm-spirited intention results in the same. Adopt The Great Toronto Game – it works everywhere. Feel the deep rush from interacting with humanity.
This is my religion,
